Low-flying

[edit]

Contrary to the article, here in central Iowa I have observed Martins flying low, skimming along lake tops and grasslands ingesting (thankfully) mosquitos. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxjce (talkcontribs) 21:00, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Skimming Along Lake Tops

[edit]

Contrary To Your Thought, That When Purple Martins Skim Along Lakes & Ponds, That There Ingesting Mosquitos, That's Incorrect. Purple Martins Only Drink On The Wing, Inorder To Evade Preditors. They Will Land On The Ground To Gather Nesting Matierial. Tree Swallows, How Ever, Have Very Similar Flight Style And Acrobatics To The (Larger Cousin) Purple Martins. Yet They Fly Very Low, Skimming The Grass To Flush Up Insects. Tree Swallows Have Pearl White, Belly Feathers,(From Beak to Tail), Unlike Martins. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AirMec 17:00, 5 June 2008 (UTC) Located; SE Indiana ~ 6mls North of I-74 & 2mls West of IN./OH.
